ICT Tip 4 - Deconstructing images using Excel (02/04/2008)
An amazing application for Excel! This shows you how to make a picture with a background matrix (an invisible grid), allowing you to add a note to any part of the image.
Here, the traditional process of taking some lines of poetry, cutting and shuffling them is replicated on a computer. The object of the task is to put them back in the right order.
This process involves the simple reduction of a text to its alphabetical listing. The resulting resource is a focus for language study and has some surprisingly powerful applications in creative work and text analysis.
This tip shows you how to create beautiful feint-ruled paper of your own, to your own specification and in ways that print fast with minimum printer ink consumption.
This approach explores ways of isolating target words from a text and discarding or deleting the other words. You end up with a neat list of words from the text that you may wish to examine on their own or use for a cloze exercise.
